Mustangs and Lynx split doubleheader

Auburn, ME - The Central Maine Mustangs and NHTI Lynx split a doubleheader on Friday night in Auburn. 

In game 1, the Mustangs came out firing on all cylinders scoring four runs in the first three innings. The Lynx chipped away and came from behind to defeat the Mustangs 6-4. 

Gage Hubbard led the Mustangs with two hits and four RBI including a three run homer in the second inning. Wyatt Knightly and Colton Frisbie were also repeat hitters. 

Trevor Phelps started on the mound for the Mustangs. He went 5.2 innings giving up six hits and striking out four. Knightly came in relief to finish the game.

In game two, the Mustangs bats went silent as they struggled to get anything going til the 7th when Teddy McFarland hit a walk off double that scored Kaleb Thompson and Mason Booker for the walk off 2-1 win. 

Lee Robertson, Knightly, Frisbie, Booker and Brady Vincent each had hits for the Mustangs.

Levi Tibbetts was dominant on the mound for the Mustangs going six innings, giving up two hits and striking out ten. Logan Carpenter pitched the last inning picking up his first collegiate win. 

"We need to be better offensively." said head coach Ryan Palmer. "We cant leave 30 runners on base in two games and expect to win" he added. "Our pitching was very good and we look to build off that."

The Mustangs are back in action on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader against Quincy College in Auburn beginning at 1:00pm.
