Moore’s Double-Double Sees CMCC Past Roxbury, 93-81

Auburn, ME – First-year forward Khaden Moore scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the CMCC men's basketball squad to a 93-81 win over the Roxbury Community College Tigers for the team's first victory of the season.

Wyatt Hathaway contributed 20 points behind five three-pointers while point guard Will Duke had a game-high nine assists to go along with 11 points. Five Mustangs total finished in double digits scoring with Rocco Chang (12) and J.T. Pound (10) getting in on the act.

Roxbury took the lead with a three by Michael Correia and a lay-up by Adiel Escobar. But when Da'Vohn Jonas threw down a dunk to make it 6-5 with 2:21 gone, CMCC had the lead for good, never trailing over the final 37:39.

Hathaway was lights out early on, knocking down all five of his made treys in the first half as Central Maine opened up a 52-39 lead at the break. Moore divided his points evenly between the two halves, going 6-for-8 from the floor in the first 20 minutes and shooting 5-for-9 with two free throws after the intermission.

Chang sunk a free throw to make it 71-52 with 12:14 left in the contest to give the Mustangs their biggest lead of the night up 19. The Tigers slowly made their way back getting to within seven points of their hosts with 5:20 left before Central Maine reextended the lead. CMCC ended the game shooting 57.1% from the floor but did commit 16 turnovers.

Otto Berzins paced the visitors with a game-high 25 points, going 6-for-8 from beyond the arc while Jaylin Jasmin and Michael Correia pitched in 21 and 19 respectively. Julien Faye had nine points off the bench for Roxbury.

The win snaps a four-game losing skid to start the season for CMCC at the hands of Canadian opposition. The Mustangs next get a taste of NCAA DIII action by visiting UMaine-Farmington on Wednesday, October 30th and hosting Maine Maritime Academy on Sunday, November 3rd. Tip-off against the Mariners is slated for 3:00 pm.
