Men’s Basketball Beaten By Bengals Late Surge

Auburn, ME – The CMCC Men's Basketball team dropped non-conference match-up against USCAA DI UMaine-Fort Kent, 95-76 on Sunday night at Kirk Hall. The Mustangs stayed within two points midway through the second half before the Bengals went on a 15-0 run over a three-minute stint to put the game away.

Wyatt Hathaway had 13 points to lead a group of four double-digit scorers, with J.T. Pound and E.J. Pemberton finishing with 12 each and Khaden Moore tallying 10. Will Duke had six rebounds and three assists to go along with eight points.

The teams traded the lead back-and-forth seven times in a fast-paced first half. Isaac Irwin put the Mustangs up 12-7 five minutes into the game. Souleymane Barro had an emphatic slam for UMFK midway through the half only for Hathaway to respond with a three-pointer to tie the game at 19-19. The Bengals led by as many as six before settling for a 41-37 advantage at the break.

Central Maine stayed close in the second half but was never able to retake the lead. A Duke layup cut the score to 53-51 with 13:03 left in the contest before UMaine-Fort Kent made their run. Jordan Guerrero connected on two three-pointers while A.J. Creech had two layups and a three-pointer, and suddenly the Bengals led 68-51 forcing head coach Dave Gonyea to call a timeout.

From there the visitors managed the gap for the remainder of the second half to see out a 19-point victory to stay perfect at 3-0.

CMCC falls to 3-7 with the loss but remain undefeated against USCAA DII opposition. The Mustangs return to Yankee Small College Conference play on Tuesday with a visit from the Herons of Great Bay Community College. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 pm.
