Men’s Basketball Gets Full Team Effort in 109-59 Win

Auburn, ME – The CMCC Men's Basketball team recorded its biggest win of the season with seven different players reaching double digits in points in a 109-59 victory over Paul Smith's College on Saturday night. The squad had 14 different players feature on the court for at least ten minutes and 13 different players scored in a full team effort at Kirk Hall.

The Bobcats actually got off to a better start, leading for the first seven minutes and going up by as many as six while the Mustangs got into rhythm. Central Maine took the lead for good on a Rocco Chang three-pointer with 11:56 remaining in the first half. That sparked a 29-4 run over the next six minutes to go up 46-21.

Khaden Moore had 12 of his team-high 16 points before halftime and Wyatt Hathaway had all 11 of his in the first 20 minutes, shooting 3-for-7 from beyond the arc. The team shot better than 50% in all aspects to take a 59-27 lead into the locker room. It was the second-highest scoring half for the Mustangs this season, one shy of their 60-point first half effort in their win over NHTI.

CMCC kept up the pressure in the second half with another run, outscoring PSC 17-5 in the first six minutes to put the game out of reach. Coach Dave Gonyea gave the last 11 minutes of the game to the five of Hunter Brackett, Miles Spear, Ayden Jefferson, Riley Bowen, and James Pearson. The group combined for 33 points down the stretch to push the Mustangs across the century mark for the third time this season.

Joining Moore and Hathaway in double figures were E.J. Pemberton (12), Will Duke (10), Irwin (10), Pearson (10), and Bowen (10). Duke and Pearson both picked up six assists while J.T. Pound led the rebounding effort, pulling down eight boards. The Mustangs were very effective on the glass, securing 56 rebounds compared to the Bobcats 32. They shot 51.2% from the field and limited themselves to only 10 turnovers in the game.

Central Maine improved to 7-6 with the win putting the team above the .500 mark for the first time this year, and 4-1 in conference play, good for second in the YSCC standings.
