Mustangs 2-0 In YSCC After 94-85 Win vs Great Bay

Auburn, ME – The CMCC Men's Basketball stayed perfect in Yankee Small College Conference play with a 94-85 victory over Great Bay Community College. The Mustangs were paced by their captains with Wyatt Hathaway scoring 26 and Da'Vohn Jonas ending with 20 points. Central Maine moves to 4-7 overall and 2-0 in YSCC play.

The game was a long slog lasting two hours and ten minutes with both teams combining for 48 fouls. CMCC took the lead 4:08 into the first half and never trailed the rest of the way. On the other side, highly decorated senior forward Theodore Wolfe finished with 40 points, 15 rebounds and three steals for the Herons to lead all players in all three categories.

Great Bay jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the opening minutes as the Mustangs struggled to get out of the gate. Back-to-back three-pointers from Will Duke helped kick the offense into gear, which finished the half with a 55-41 lead. Central Maine finished the first 20 minutes shooting 9-for-18 from beyond the arc with Hathaway, Jonas, Duke, and Rocco Chang all reaching double figures.

The Herons trailed by as many as 21 in the second half and struggled to get within single digits despite the best efforts of Wolfe. The Mustangs relied on their own senior in Hathaway who handled the ball more frequently in the face of high pressure, adding another 14 points to his total. Duke and Chang finished with 15 points apiece. Jonas and J.T. Pound each had eight rebounds and Duke also dished out a game-high eight assists.

"I thought we played a great first half," said head coach Dave Gonyea. "We shot the ball very well and went to the locker room with a nice lead. We were a little more undisciplined in the second half but still came out with a good win. Kudos to Theodore Wolfe who was the best player on the floor. He's an absolute beast to try and deal with."

The two sides meet again in Portsmouth, NH on January 22nd. Next up for CMCC, a visit from NHTI on Thursday, November 14th. The Mustangs and Lynx tip off at 6:00 pm.
