Men's Hockey cruise to a win over the Monks

Men's Hockey cruise to a win over the Monks
Auburn ME,  In the last game before winter-break the Mustangs knew they needed a strong ending! After a disappointing lost against Colby the Mustangs came out flying in the 1st period and got themselves off to a quick 2-0 lead by goals from Jack Keefe and Cody Ivey. The Monks would score on the powerplay to make it 2-1, but late in the period the Mustangs would get powerplay goals from Gabe Poirier and Evan Knowlton to go up 4-1 in the 1st intermission.

The 2nd period the Mustangs would once again come out flying and find 2 quick goals from Evan Knowlton and Cam Henderson to be up 6-1. The Monks would not give up and kept pressing and responded by scoring 2 goals to make the score 6-3 heading into the 2nd intermission.

The 3rd period the Mustangs needed a strong finish with the last 20 minutes of the 1st Semester and Diego Alonso would score the 7-3 to give the Mustangs some energy back! Jason Melanson and Matt Poirier would score the 8 and 9th goal after some pretty passing plays, making the final score 9-3!

Coach Knoren said'' Overall I am proud of the group in the 1st half of the season, we have committed to playing a certain way and have bought into the systems, some individual mistakes or a couple minutes of bad play has cost us to lose some games that we had a chance to win.  Our objective for 2nd semester is clear and I truly believe our group understands and will be ready to face some good competition coming up.  If we clean up the bad spells of giving up some easy goals we are going to be a dangerous team to beat down the stretch''

Men's Hockey will deserve a well needed break, and re-group early January to start the Michigan trip which will see them play 4 games in 5 days!

Thank you to all the fans for the support during the 1st part of the season, and happy holidays!
