Auburn, ME - The CM Softball Team drop an exhibition game the Bobcats of Bates College Thursday afternoon by a score of 13-5.
The Mustangs started game one with first-year Avery Herrick (Dexter, ME) on the mound who pitched three innings allowing 8 hits, 3 strike outs while walking 1 batter. In the fourth inning the Mustangs turned to second-year Olivia Scott (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) who pitched 3 innings allowing 6 hits, 4 strike outs while walking 2. In the 7th inning the Mustangs turned the ball over to first year Makayla Gross (Farmington, Me) who pitched the last Inning allowing 3 hits, 1 strike out while walking no batters.
The Mustangs offence produced 10 hits and scoried 5 runs but stranded 9 runners on base and were not able to match the Bobcats at the plate. The Mustangs were paced by Abby Ferland's (Monmouth, ME) Grand Slam Home Run and her 4 RBI's. Avery Herrick (Dexter, ME) went 3-4 including a double and scoring twice. Olivia Scott (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) went 2-4 including a double of her own. Maria Dostie (Lewiston, ME), Haley Fernald (Bridgton, ME), Emily Wormwood (Bowdoinham, ME) and Olivia Gallan (So. Paris, ME) each added a hit.
The Mustangs committed 5 errors in the field 3 in the last inning.
After the game Head Coach Bruce Robertson, commented, " This was a good exhibition game for us vs a really good D3 school. Playing tough teams like this will only benefit us for our final game of the season Sunday vs CCRI and help us if we want that shot at Nationals. We just started a little slow allowing 7 runs before we could start crossing the plate ourselves. We got the game close in the bottom of the 4th with Abby's home run making it 7-5 where it stayed until 6th and then they opened it up in the 7th. We used 3 pitchers today which i thought they all pitched well. We just made too many errors behind them. We also stranded 9 base runners which that did not help as well."
