Tiana Carter hired as Women's Basketball assistant coach

Auburn, ME - Head Women's Basketball Coach, Andrew Morong, is pleased to announce the hiring of Tiana Carter as an assistant women's basketball coach for the 2019-20 season. Carter is no stranger to the Lady Mustangs as she helped them several times in practices during last season.

Carter played NCAA Division 1 basketball at Albany where started 63 games for the Great Danes. In 2015 she was named to the America East All-Rookie Team and followed that up the next season by being named the America East Sixth Player of the Year. During her senior campaign for the Great Danes she averaged 10.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game and was named to the America East Third Team as well as the All-Defensive Team.

In high school Carter played for Paul True and Lake Region High School in Naples, ME. Carter led Lakers to a 86-7 record in four years, earning First Team All-Conference all four seasons. She led school to Class B state championship in 2014 and Western Maine Class B conference championships in 2012, 2013 and 2014. She finished her career having earned over 1,000 points and rebounds.

Coach Morong commented, "We are thrilled that Tiana is joining our staff. We are always looking for ways to bring our program to a new level, and adding Tiana instantly does that. Her experience playing for Paul True, one of the best coaches in the state of Maine, and four years playing division one basketball will serve her well in helping guide the young women in our program. Tiana has a very engaging personality, and I think her ability to connect with our student-athletes will help them grow on and off the court."

Carter added, "I was drawn to this team not only for the success of the program, but also because of the hard work and dedication these young women athletes possess both in basketball and academically I have had the chance to watch many of their games and I am excited for this opportunity. I believe I can contribute to this teams winning mentality, assist in the post players development, along with Coach Morong's style of play. I am most looking forward to working with this great group of athletes and helping them grow as much as I can in their academic education, basketball development, and as young adult women."

Carter joins the bench with Coach Morong who enters his 9th year at Central Maine and Abby Nielsen who will be in her 2nd season. She will work with the post players and will be a major influence on the recruiting trail.
