Women's Basketball adds local guard

Auburn, ME - Kierstyn Lyons, a standout guard for the Mountain Valley High School Falcons will be joining the Lady Mustangs this fall. The sharp-shooting guard led the Mountain Valley Conference (MVC) in 3-pointer made as a junior and senior. Lyons was also the 4th leading scorer in the MVC and earned 2nd Team All-Conference Honors. In addition to her basketball accolades, Lyons also served at the MVHS class of 2020 Class President as a junior and senior, served on student council for four years, earned the Maine Principal's Association award, served as a Falcon Ambassador, and participated in soccer, tennis, and math team - all while being a high honors student.

Head Women's Basketball Coach, Andrew Morong, commented, "We have known Kierstyn for a long time now, and feel fortunate to have such a well-rounded young woman joining our program. On the floor she is a tenacious and competitive guard who is known for stretching the defense and playing some gritty defense herself. We are graduating the two best 3-point shooters in the league in Natalie (Thurber) and Kristen (Huntress), so Kierstyn will help to fill those roles. Kierstyn fits with exactly what we do here at CM, and I am excited that her and her family will be joining our CM family."

Mountain Valley coach, Craig Milledge, added, "Kierstyn is an extremely dedicated gym rat and her success in the game of basketball didn't happen by accident. More importantly though, she is a kind and genuine young lady. She gives everything she has to her teammates and treats everyone around her in a way that makes them feel appreciated. She devotes so much of her time to students and community members that are in need. She has been a great model for the kids in our program to follow. Simply said, she does things she doesn't have to to make the lives of those around her better. It doesn't get much better than that."

Lyons on her commitment to CM, "CM just seemed like the best option for me. Its Life Sciences program was really attractive, as it offers me a flexible path into the medical or science fields. I know my adjustment to the college game will be challenging, but I am excited for it! I have seen CM play many times and attended their Elite Camp during the summer, so I think that will help, at least a little bit, with my adjustment. I also know they like to play fast, and press, which is what we did at Mountain Valley. I love the game of basketball, and just want to continue improving. I am excited to get to campus and meet all of my teammates - they come from all over the world, which i really neat. We know we have a lot of work to do, and as usual, the target is on our back, but we will work hard and be prepared."

Lyons will study in the Life Sciences program at CM.
