Auburn, ME - Head Women's Basketball Coach, Andrew Morong, is pleased to announce that Laney Harding has committed to the Mustangs. Harding, who was a standout at Penobscot Valley High School in Howland, ME will be studying Education while attending Central Maine Community College. The PVC Senior All-Star, twice this past season tied the conference record for 3-pointers made in a game with 7. Harding also helped her team to the 2019 Northern Maine Class C Championship and an appearance in the Class C State Championship game.

Coach Morong commented, "Laney is an incredible woman with a very bright future. I think the first thing CM fans will recognize is her ability to shoot. You cannot leave Laney open from the outside, or she will knock it down. We really needed to add shooting in this year's recruiting class, and between Kierstyn (Lyons) and Laney, we certainly accomplished that. Laney has a lot of room to still grow her game, and I think her working coach Coach Kristina Blais, is going to be huge. As she expands her game, she will really help us hold defenses accountable. Off the court Laney is mature beyond her years. She sets goals, and holds herself to high standards. Playing for Coach Case at PVHS is going to help her transition to the college game, and to our program. Coach Case stresses many of the same things that we stress at CM, so Laney will have some familiarity"

PVHS Girls Varsity Basketball Coach, Nathaniel Case, added, "Laney has been a pleasure to watch grow as a player & person. My favorite thing about Laney is her loyalty to basketball, her team & coaches. That quality paired with her intelligence, determination & toughness will allow her to add to the Mustangs' success & be able to take on life's challenges."

On her commitment, Harding said, "I knew that I wanted to attend CM after my first visit. The campus was so nice and everyone was super welcoming. The culture of the women's basketball program was something that I was immediately drawn to. I know that playing college basketball will be very different from anything that I've experienced, but I am super excited for the change. Coach Morong's intense and passionate coaching demeanor is something that I experienced with my high school coach, so I think that will help me with the transition. Being from a small town, I am excited about getting to know everyone. Being able to form relationships with people from different cultures will also be very exciting. I am most looking forward to getting in the gym & being able to continue improving my game with other talented players. I have always taken pride in my shooting ability, but being a great teammate on and off the court is something that I really want to focus on above all else. I love the game and am learning the value of embracing different roles, so I am excited to apply that next year."
