Women’s Basketball Drops 90+ for Sixth Straight Game

Auburn, ME – The CMCC Women's Basketball team marched to a 94-50 victory over Paul Smith's College on Saturday afternoon, scoring 90 or more points for the sixth straight contest. Ella Lavigne led the way with a double-double behind a team-high 23 points and 12 rebounds. The Mustangs improve to 10-0 on the year and 3-0 in YSCC play.

The Mustangs never trailed against the Bobcats, doubling up the visitors in the first quarter to take a 20-10 lead. Riley Hebler poured in seven points through the first ten minutes and six different players scored at least a point, as Central Maine got off to a good start. Rosa Prieto's three-pointer with 15 seconds left in the quarter increased the lead to ten, before knocking down another shot from beyond the arc to open the second.

Hunter Hartsgrove took over before halftime, shooting 3-for-6 from outside and scoring 11 points in just seven minutes on the court. CMCC built a 23-point lead, its largest of the half, on a Lavigne layup with 1:51 remaining to go up 41-18. When the teams headed back to the locker room the Mustangs had a 44-23 advantage.

Coach Andrew Morong's charges kept the pressure on in the second half, having their best quarter of the game in the third, outscoring Paul Smith's 29-14. Eight different players put points on the board and 12 total saw minutes on the court as part of a full team effort that put the game out of reach. Lavigne added another nine points in the fourth quarter with the Mustangs leading by as many as 46 points before settling for a 94-50 win.

Central Maine shot 51.3% from the floor more than twice as good as the PSC's 25.0% effort. The Mustangs also won the battle on the boards, pulling down 50 rebounds compared to the Bobcats 33. Hartsgrove followed behind Lavigne in scoring with 18 points, her fourth straight game in double figures. Prieto finished with 12 points while Smith scored eight and pulled down nine rebounds. Jenny Chaput had nine points and Stella Laubenstein dealt out a team-high six assists.
