Auburn, ME – CM student athlete, Matt Attard, was the featured speaker at the Australian Wildfire Relief Fundraiser last month conducted at York County Community College in Wells, Maine. Attard, a sophomore at Central Maine Community College resides in Sunbury, Australia and is a member of the men's basketball team at CM. 

The Nonantum Inn in Kennebunkport was a main sponsor of the event led by its own Aussie, Reece Attard (no relation). Reece has worked at the Nonantum  over eight years and like, Matt, is committed to his homeland and the relief effort. 

Over 3000 homes have been destroyed, 27 million acres burnt, and 1.25 billion animals killed throughout the fires. One hundred percent of the funds raised at the event were donated to the Global Giving Wildlife Relief Fund. 

According to Matt, "I was really pleased to see a local business step up and help coordinate the fundraiser to support the struggle in Australia. I was especially pleased to meet and connect with fellow Aussie, Reece Attard. He shares the same passion I have for our country.  It's comforting in times like this to know we have the support of Americans."
