Mustangs Score with Third Aussie

Auburn, ME – The Central Maine Athletic department and head men's basketball coach Dave Gonyea is pleased to announce Jarrod Foreman, a 6'3" guard from Sydenham, Victoria, Australia and a graduate of Taylors Lakes Secondary College will be joining the Mustangs this fall.  Jarrod will be studying Computer Technology.

Coach Gonyea: "Jarrod is a nice pickup.  He gets after it on the defensive end, has a solid basketball IQ and fits in with our style.  As soon as I watched his tape, I knew he could play for us.  He will have to adjust to the physicality but he is a smart enough player to figure it out.  The weight room will be his best friend.  I look forward to coaching him."

Jarrod answered the questions below:

Why did you choose CM?
Coach Gonyea and the family-like environment he's established at Central Maine really sold me on the offer, and, after speaking to some of the players in the program, it truly seemed like the perfect fit for me. The great computer technology program the school provides also helped me finalize my decision.

How do you think playing college basketball will differ from your previous experience?
I believe basketball at the collegiate level will be a lot more physically demanding than what I've previously experienced, and the workload and training schedule will most definitely be more intense than what players such as myself have previously become accustomed to in Australia.

What are you most looking forward to about attending and playing basketball at CM?
I'm looking forward to being able to train and compete at a high level of basketball and experience all I can as an amateur-level athlete, whilst also being able to study and work my way towards earning a degree.

What do you think you can bring to the team next year?
My versatility and strong work ethic, I believe, will fit in with the Mustangs program well, and I can only hope that my camaraderie and competitiveness will bring out the best in my teammates over the course of the season.

 Describe your basketball experience.
Ever since I picked up a basketball at 8 years of age I've been in love with the sport. I've played at multiple, diverse levels within the sport, and pride myself on being looked at as the underdog. One thing that's always mattered to me the most is trust between coaches and teammates, and I'm looking forward to building that over my time with the Mustangs program.

What is your biggest strength in basketball?
I'd say my greatest strength would be my IQ amongst my agility that both positively contribute toward my perception of the game at the point-guard position. I also strongly believe that my shooting consistency will further benefit the team throughout the season on the offensive-end.

Foreman was a 3-year varsity player and averaged 22ppg in his senior year in high school.  He has accumulated a variety of awards along his path through high school:

  • Salvation Army Tournament Division 1 Men "All-Star Team" (Top 5) Selection (All Conference)
  • 2019 Under 21's VJBL Division 1 Regular Season MVP Award
  • 2019 Under 21's VJBL Division 1 Finals MVP Award
  • 2019 Under 21's VJBL Division 1 Finals Champions

On the academic side, he has impressive stats as well:

  • Certificate of Recognition for Academic Achievement: Half-Yearly Award (Senior Year).
  • Straight A's in English Coursework (Senior Year).
  • Straight A's in Computing (Software Development) Coursework (Senior Year).
