Auburn, ME – Head Men's Basketball Coach, Dave Gonyea, is pleased to announce the signing of the program's first recruit of the new season today.  Cole Morin, a 6'5" center from Turner, ME and a 2020 graduate of Leavitt High School will be joining the team this fall.

Morin led the Hornets this past season and was named KVAC All-Conference his sophomore, junior, and senior year. He scored 800 career points while at Leavitt and named a Maine McDonald's Senior All-Star his senior year. Morin also played football at Leavitt and won a state championship with the Hornets. Excelling on the court/field is only half the story, Morin was an honor roll student all four years of high school.

According Coach Gonyea, "Cole is exactly what our program needs right now. Not only is he a great kid, hard worker, and unselfish player, he is a team player who will fit in with our guys. He was a good player in high school but I think his best years are in front of him. We are very pleased he will be a Mustang."

Cole answered the following questions:

Why did you choose CM?
Cole:  I felt like CM was the best choice for me financially and I felt like I was not only joining a team, but a family. I loved watching the basketball program when I was growing up and I'm excited to have been given the opportunity to play.

What did you like most about the campus?
Cole: I like how CM doesn't fit the community college stigma. All of the building on campus are well put together and new. And I like how the basketball court and the weight room are similar set ups to my high school.

How do you think playing college basketball will differ from your previous experience?
Cole:  I hope to expand my game in new ways and show people that I'm more than just a post player. I look forward to a more aggressive and physical game where everybody is competing at 100%.

What are you most looking forward to about attending and playing basketball at CM?
Cole:
I look forward to playing with new teammates and a new coaching staff. I also look forward to playing in front of a packed gym for the home games.

What do you think you can bring to the team next year?
Cole:  I think I can bring a post presence but also, I hope I can be a leader even as a freshman. I'll bring 100% effort to everything I do, from practice, to lifts and games.

Describe your basketball experience.
Cole:  I've played b-ball since I was 5. I've played AAU since seventh grade and was a four-year starter on my high school team. I finished my career with over 800 points and 950 rebounds.

What is your biggest strength in basketball?
Cole:
I think my biggest strength is my physical presence in the post. But my game has grown over my high school career and my game involves a lot more than just playing my back to the basket.

Head boys' basketball coach, Mike Hathaway, of Leavitt Area High School commented, "Cole was a four-year starter, starting 75 games, and finishing with over 750 points, 930 rebounds, and 265 blocks. His junior and senior seasons were stellar and his leadership led us to a 29-9 record and 2 tournament appearances."
