Dierynck Earns a Scholarship at Glenville State College

Auburn, ME – The Central Maine athletic department and Head Men's Basketball Coach Dave Gonyea is pleased to announce Nicolas Dierynck, a 6'3" sharpshooter from Roeselare, Belgium has been awarded a scholarship and signed by division two Glenville State College in West Virginia.

Dierynck, a sophomore at CM, averaged 12.1 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game.  He shot 43% from the field and led the Mustangs into the Yankee Conference Tournament.  Despite being shorthanded with four out of five starters hurt, Dierynck was the only starter not to get hurt all season and played 26 games.

According to Head Coach Gonyea, "Nic is one of the, if not the, hardest worker we have had in a long time at CM. Along with aussie Matt Attard, he has been working on campus all summer and incorporated a ridged training regimen into his daily schedule.  His improvement has been significant.  He is coachable, hardworking, and will do perform whatever role is expected of him.  He is also a stellar student in the classroom as well.  Glenville is getting a solid performer.  Personally, I love the kid and will miss him dearly."

Nic responded, "I am very thankful for the opportunity to play at CM and gained a lot of game experience and feel like I had the chance to grow as a player.  I was determined to show the coaching staff and my teammates I belonged and could be a team leader.  I am very appreciative to have the opportunity to have access to the gym and weight room when needed.  I think this helped me develop into a better player.   I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life at Glenville and thank Coach Caldwell for this opportunity."

Teammate Matt Attard says, "I am very happy for Nic as he worked so hard for this opportunity.  He and I were in the gym every day working on our game and nobody worked as hard as Nic.  His work ethic has paid off and he is moving on to a good school with a solid scholarship."

Nic studied Physical Fitness at CM.

Glenville State College plays in the Mountain East Conference in Division two.  The basketball team finished last year at 14-15 and are revamping their roster.
