Swedish guard joining Lady Mustangs

Auburn, ME - Central Maine Community College women's basketball coach, Andrew Morong, has announced that Jasmine Gutenberg has committed to join the Lady Mustangs this fall.

"Seeing the success of multiple NE-10 schools and the University of Maine recruiting abroad, we wanted to expand our recruiting horizons as well," said Morong.  "Having Jasmine be our first recruit from Europe is very exciting.  She is a very outgoing young woman with high character and a passion for basketball.  It is simply a great fit.  Jasmine is a tremendous perimeter shooter with a great understanding for the game."

A 5'5" guard from Uppala, Sweden, Gutenberg averaged 15 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals per game while shooting over 40% from beyond the arc.  She was named her team captain for the last two years, and helped lead her team to the finals of the 2013 Swedish Championships.

According to Gutenberg, "I think CM is a great fit for me both academically and athletically.  I have a great connection with Coach Morong and I've started to bond with some of the players as well.  The campus is beautiful, sitting next to Lake Auburn, and everything seems easily accessible.  I quickly got the feeling that everyone on campus knows one another, and that more importantly they take care of each other"

"I am really looking forward to playing up-tempo, and although there will be adjustments I will have to make, I think my game will translate very nicely.  My perimeter shooting will help me make an impact next year, but I also bring a lot of energy," she said.
