Auburn, ME - Head Women's Basketball Coach, Andrew Morong, has announced the first commitment for the Lady Mustangs' 2016 recruiting class.  Kristina Blais (Lewiston, ME) a 5'4" point guard from Lewiston High School will join CM next year, and is a pivotal building block in what is hoped to be a heralded recruiting class.

By the time she graduates in the spring, Blais will have 12 varsity seasons in 3 sports under her belt, as she competed in varsity soccer, basketball, and lacrosse since her freshman year.  Although she has numerous accolades on the field/court, Blais has also found success in the classroom as well.  She has earned First Honors in every quarter during her high school career and was inducted into the National Honor Society.

According to Morong, "Kristina has been a target of ours since her freshman year.  She plays with a chip on her shoulder, and that is exactly what you need to be successful at the college level.  Her ability to not only distribute, but score in bunches as well, from the point guard position is a huge asset.  Most importantly, I know she fits the culture here.  She's been around our program long enough to know our expectations inside and out, on and off the court.  I think people are going to see her game really take off at the next level."

He continued, "In just a couple of years, Coach Girouard has done a fantastic job with the Lewiston program, and Kristina's maturation has been a part of that.  We hope to see more Lady Blue Devils wearing CM colors in college, much like their coach did."

Blais on choosing CM, "I wanted to stay relatively close to home, and get my core courses done while getting a great value.  As far as basketball goes, I've been lucky enough to play AAU for Coach Morong over the last two years, and during that time I was really exposed to the women's basketball program at CM, and absolutely fell in love with it.  Beyond just the winning and success they've had, it's how they get to that point.  It is how the practices are run, it's the expectations, it is the style they play, it's a culmination of so many things.  I am most looking forward to the family feeling I get when I am around the team and program; they push each other so hard to be successful, because they care so much for one another."

On playing at the next level, "College ball will definitely be more of a challenge, but I feel that I am really getting ready for the next step.  I am willing to do whatever it takes during the season and in the off season to better myself to take on bigger, faster, and taller opponents.  I think I can bring a high level of intensity to the team, but when it comes down to it, I am a point and it will be my job to distribute, attack, and/or shoot at the right times."
